Today PasswordFolder, Inc. released their new freeware program Password Folder V2.0, which is a Windows lightweight folder password protection freeware tool that adds password protection to folders in a flash.
Password Folder, naturally, doesn't need much explaining. It is this application created for securing any chosen folder with a password. The way it works is innovative. Once you unlock the restricted folder using the set key, the folder does not revert to the locked position.
This means that the user will need to relock the folder each and every time it has been unlocked. Ideally, you can use this program to lock certain folders when passing your PC from one user to the other.
Password Folder is extremely fast and even a folder of several gigabytes can be locked and restored in 3 seconds. It is perfectly suitable to protect folders on the local computer. No one would be able to open protected folders without the password.
In addition, once the folder is protected by Password Folder, it cannot be copied to another drive or sent via the internet unless the administrator decrypts it. Password Folder also adds a context menu shortcut so that users can protect a regular folder by a right-mouse hit easily.
Simple and straightforward
The program, once installed, will display a simple window containing a coloured folder with a lock drawn on it. The app works with the drag and drops technique, meaning you can pull a specific folder onto the app window and have it registered with a password. You can also manually locate the folder path.
The program will ask for a password and confirmation. The folder itself will immediately have its icon changed to the app's proprietary design. This is how you can keep track of your password-locked folders.
Doesn't need to be always launched
If you think the app needs to be run at all given times, you are wrong. When unlocking a folder, the app will automatically launch, requesting the set password. When the folder is unlocked, its icon is reverted to the original Windows one.
Relocking the folder means you have to repeat the whole process again. Advanced settings include the ability to set one password for all folders, and right-clicking the shortcut.
Password Folder is a great choice if you are looking to quickly lock sensitive information away from other users' reach. It does not provide complex options, meaning it does not seem like an efficient choice for use outside your household or certain smaller businesses. Still, its friendly approach gives basic and more advanced users the ability to increase their privacy in a quick way.
